Ecology: A white flower, contrasting against the green bog mat attracts the attention of a small bee, who comes to collect nectar, pollen gathers on the bee’s hairs to be carried to the next flower. Unbeknownst to the bee, are untold horrors only inches below. Protruding leaves decorated with sweet droplets at the end of fine hairs are an open invitation for certain insects. When an ant or small fly comes to feed, they become trapped in the droplets which are six times more viscous than water. The leaf folds around the insect and their body soon succumbs to the powerful enzymes that digest their flesh. The plant feeds on the phosphorous and nitrogen from their prey, nutrients their substrate lacks. This allows them to be found in a host of environments, where many plants could not endure. The bee, blissfully unaware, flies to the next flower for the colours and smells below are of little interest
