Ecology: The North American river otter traditionally frequents ponds, lakes, streams and rivers, often surrounded by forest. Because of this, it was quite a surprise to hear of one that was living in a heavily industrialized urban area. Towards evening, the otter made his appearance in the local marina, where he would dive under the docked boats and within minutes come up with a fish. He would often catch yellow perch, although he would also catch the odd juvenile bass. He ate the fish head first, presumably to avoid the fish’s spines from getting stuck in his throat. As successful as any expert fisherman, the otter caught ~6 fish within 30 minutes, likely due to the freezing cold water which slowed the fish down enough for him to pick them off with ease. After eating a large catfish, he made his way out of the marina to his hidden abode
